Default Soil Composition for canary island, and windmill palms?

I live in central TX north of Austin and south of Dallas and I have heard some mixed emotions about the proper soil composition which will make ideal conditions for the two above mentioned species of palms. Some have told me top soil/sand mixture. Some recommend top soil with compost added, and some say top soil with compost sprinkled about a foot away from the trunk on top of the soil so the compost can work its way down. I am interested in hearing everyone on hears opinion. Thanks

Jason

Default Type of soil for Canary's and Windmill palms

Top soil/sand mixture with compost added is the best. If you do not want to use compost, use fertilizer in the mixture. Its basically the same idea or principal. Compost decomposes and turns into food for the palm trees. Sand mixture allows for draining which is ideal for palm trees. Palm trees do not enjoy soggy soil. They like to soil to be dried out and re-watered. Make sure when you do get fertilizer, it is the correct combination of ingredients. Such as 13-3-13 or 14-5-15 or 16-4-12 any of these type of fertilizer will do extremely well for the palms. To keep the palms nice and clean spray the palm with fungicide. This will prevent spotting and other types of scales or fungus.

Good Luck.... Hoped I helped.
